DR. SETH ARONSON Seth Aronson is Fellow, Faculty and Training and Supervising Analyst at the William Alanson White Institute, New York as well as the Manhattan Institute for Psychoanalysis, and the Northwest Center for Psychoanalysis, Seattle and Portland. He is Assistant Clinical Professor at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Dr. Aronson's publications include (co-authorship) "Group Treatment of Adolescents in Context." RABBI SAUL J. BERMAN Rabbi Saul J. Berman is Director of Continuing Rabbinic Education at YCT. He is a leading Orthodox teacher and thinker. Ordained by Yeshiva University, at which he also earned a BA and an MHL, he has completed a JD at New York University and an MA in Political Science at the University of California at Berkeley. He served as a congregational rabbi at Beth Israel in Berkeley, CA; Young Israel of Brookline, MA; and Lincoln Square Synagogue in New York, NY. Rabbi Berman served as Chairman of the Department of Judaic Studies of Stern College for Women of Yeshiva University for 13 years, where he still serves as an Associate Professor of Jewish Studies. He is also an adjunct Professor at Columbia University School of Law. In 1997, Rabbi Berman founded and became Director of Edah, an organization devoted to the invigoration of Modern Orthodox ideology and religious life.
RABBI DR. TSVI BLANCHARD Rabbi Blanchard is Director of Organizational Development at CLAL. He holds PhD degrees in both Philosophy and Psychology. He has taught at Washington, Northwestern and Loyola Universities as well as at Drisha Institute for Jewish Education and the Wexner Heritage Foundation. RABBI JEFF FOX Rabbi Jeff Fox is Rabbi of Cogrgation Kesher in Tenafly, NJ. He received his BA at the Binghamton University and holds a semikha from Yeshivat Chovevei Torah Rabbinical School. DR. MICHELLE FRIEDMAN Dr. Michelle Friedman is the Founder and Chair of the Department of Pastoral Counseling at YCT. She received an MD from the NYU School of Medicine and has completed advanced training at the Columbia University Psychoanalytic Center for Training and Research. Dr. Friedman is a highly respected psychiatrist who focuses on the Jewish community and has a special interest in the rabbinate and pastoral counseling. In addition to her private practice and her role at YCT, Dr. Friedman is also Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at Mount Sinai Hospital, New York.
DR. HILLEL GROSSMAN Dr. Hillel Grossman is Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City. Before entering medical school, he studied in the graduate program in the Department of Religion at Columbia University and in the ordination program at Yeshiva University. A contributor to Kaplan and Saddock's "Comprehensive Textbook of Psychiatry," he is the author of a number of articles in research journals. RABBI NATHANIEL HELFGOT Rabbi Nathaniel Helfgot is Chair of Departments of Bible and Jewish Thought at YCT. He was previously Director of the Judaic Studies Curriculum at Ma`ayanot Yeshiva High School for Girls. Ordained by RIETS and a recipient of the Jerusalem Fellowship, Rabbi Helfgot holds an MA in Education from the Azrieli Graduate School of Yeshiva University. He has authored dozens of essays in Hebrew and English, serves as co-editor of the Hebrew journal Or HaMizrach and most recently served as editor of the volume "Community, Covenant and Commitment: Selected Letters and Communications of Rabbi Joseph B. Soloveitchik." RABBI YSOSCHER KATZ Rabbi Ysoscher Katz is the Director of the Beit Midrash Program (preparatory year) at YCT. He received ordination in 1986 from Rabbi Roth, dayan of UTA Satmer. Rabbi Katz studied in Brisk and in Yeshivat Beis Yosef, Navaradok for over ten years. A graduate of the HaSha'ar Program for Jewish Educators, Rabbi Katz has taught at the Ma'ayanot High School for Girls and SAR High School. He was a leading teacher of a daf yomi class in Boro Park for over eight years. RABBI YAMIN LEVY Rabbi Yamin Levy was ordained rabbi by Yeshiva University. Formerly, the Academic Director of Sephardic Studies at Yeshiva University (2001-2006), he spent 18 years in the rabbinate in New Jersey, Seattle, WA. and Long Island, NY. Rabbi Levy is the author of the internationally acclaimed "Confronting the Loss of a Baby: A Personal and Jewish Perspective," which was translated in Hebrew by Ruben Mass Publishers. He also wrote "Journey Through Grief: A Sephardic Manual for the Bereaved and Their Community" as well as authored numerous scholarly articles published in English and Hebrew on a range of topics including Jewish Law, Biblical Studies, and Maimonidean Studies. Most recently, Rabbi Levy co-edited a book entitled "The Legacy of Maimonides: Religion, Reason, and Community." In addition to his work at YCT, Rabbi Levy is the Founder and Dean of the Maimonides Heritage Center. RABBI DOV LINZER Rabbi Dov Linzer is the Rosh HaYeshiva and Academic Head of Yeshivat Chovevei Torah Rabbinical School. He studied for many years at Yeshivat Har Etzion, was a member of Yeshiva University’s Gruss Kollel Elyon, and received his ordination from the Israeli Rabbinate. He is a recipient of the Javits Graduate fellowship, and a doctoral candidate in Religion at Columbia University. Rabbi Linzer headed the Boca Raton Kollel for the first two-and-a-half years of its existence, giving classes to the rabbis of the Kollel, and lecturing throughout the South Florida communities. He has published Halakha and machshava articles in Torah journals and lectures widely at synagogues and conferences on topics relating to Halakha, Orthodoxy, and modernity. Rabbi Linzer spearheaded the development of the YCT Rabbinical School curriculum into an innovative four year semikha program which provides its students with rigorous halakhic study and sophisticated professional training in the context of a religious atmosphere which cultivates openness and inclusiveness. In addition to overseeing the Yeshiva's Torah curriculum, he teaches advanced Halakha in a broad range of areas across all four sections of the Shulchan Aruch – including Kashrut, Ishut and Niddah, and Shabbat and Eruvin. Rabbi Linzer teaches advanced classes in Talmud and a year-long class in Contemporary Challenges of Modern Orthodoxy. RABBI YAACOV LOVE Rabbi Yaacov Love is the Chair of the Department of Halakha at YCT. He has studied at Yeshiva Netzach Yisrael under Harav Yisrael Gustman, z"l. He received Yoreh Yoreh and Yadin Yadin ordinations from noted rabbis and dayanim in Israel. Rabbi Love taught at Shappel Institute and Machon Pardes in Israel for nine years and completed course work for the MA/PhD program in Talmud at Hebrew University, Jerusalem. RABBI CHAIM MARDER Rabbi Chaim Marder is Chair of YCT's Department of Practical Rabbinics. He has served as Rabbi of the Hebrew Institute of White Plains since 1995. He is a graduate of Yeshiva University, holds an MA in Jewish History and received rabbinical ordination from RIETS. He is Vice President of both the Rabbinical Council of America and the Westchester Board of Rabbis and a member of the Orthodox Caucus.
RABBI JONATHAN MILGRAM Rabbi Jonathan Milgram is Assistant Professor of Talmud and Rabbinics at The Jewish Theological Seminary and specializes in lower and higher criticism of the Babylonian Talmud and the intersection between these studies and the historical development of Jewish law. He has a BA in Comparative Literature from Columbia University, a BA in Talmud from The Jewish Theological Seminary, an MA in Talmud and Rabbinic Ordination from Yeshiva University, and a PhD in Talmud from Bar Ilan University. DR. IAN MILLER Dr. Ian Miller is Assistant Clinical Professor of Medical Psychology at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. He is also a Clinical Supervisor of the Psychology Program at City University of New York and a consultant for the New York City Fire Department. RABBI DANIEL REIFMAN Rabbi Daniel Reifman received his ordination from the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary and holds an MA in Bible from the Bernard Revel Graduate School of Yeshivat University. He has also studied and taught at Yeshivat Shaalvim in Israel. In addition to his position at YCT, Rabbi Reifman currently teaches Halakha in the Scholars Circle program at the Drisha Institute, where he has been on the faculty for the past four years. BITI ROI Biti Roi is a lecturer in Judaic studies at the SAR High School and Stern College of the Yeshiva University. Biti was a Jerusalem Fellow in the Mandel Institute for Professional Leadership and a Fellow of the Hartman Institute in Jerusalem. She has taught at Midreshet Lindenbaum, at David Yelin Colege and at Hartman Institute. In addition, Biti has served on the National Committee of the Israeli Ministry of Education in departments of Jewish Studies and Philosophy. She has published articles in the area of Kabbalah and Hassidism and is currently pursuing a PhD at Hebrew University. DR. JILL SALBERG Dr. Jill Salberg received both her PhD and Post-Doctoral training in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis from New York University. She is Faculty at the National Institute for the Psychotherapies (NIP) and has taught courses at the JCC in Manhattan, which combine her interest and engagement with Psychoanalysis and Judaism. These courses have led to articles given as presentations and in press. She is a supervisor at both NIP and the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy and maintains a Private Practice in Manhattan and Westchester. DR. MARC B. SHAPIRO Professor Marc Shapiro received a BA from Brandeis University and a PhD from Harvard University. He holds the Weinberg Chair in Judaic Studies at University of Scranton. His major area of interest is Jewish religious history. Dr. Shapiro's recent book "Between the Yeshiva World and Modern Orthodoxy" was a National Jewish Book Award Finalist. He is currently completing a book on the historical influence of Maimonides' Thirteen Principles. RABBI AVI WEISS Rabbi Avi Weiss is the Founder and President of YCT Rabbinical School. He is Senior Rabbi of the Hebrew Institute of Riverdale, a modern and Open Orthodox congregation of 850 families in Bronx, NY. Rabbi Weiss is the National President of the AMCHA – the Coalition for Jewish Concerns, a grassroots organization that speaks out for Jewish causes throughout the world. He has authored two books: Women at Prayer: A Halakhic Analysis of Women’s Prayer Groups and Principles of Spiritual Activism
Adjunct Faculty DIAAN AINSLEE, Lecturer in Professional Development Diaan Ainslee’s professional career as an actress, director, and teacher spans over 30 years. Diaan has appeared on Broadway, Television, and Film and directed productions in New York, California, and Canada. She has coached celebrities and corporate executives for television, concert, and personal appearances. Diaan has created a series of seminars and workshops for several organizations including the UJA-Federation of New York, United Way, Burberry, Legal and Real Estate Firms, focusing on communication skills. DR. ESTHER ALTMANN, Lecturer in Pastoral Counseling Dr. Esther Altmann eceived a doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Boston University and clinical training at Tufts University and Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. She has worked in the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Schneider Children's Hospital. Currently, Dr. Altman is in private practice where she specializes in work with adolescents, couples and families. She is on the Eating Disorder Advisory Board at the Board of Jewish Education and is a Supervising Psychologist at St. Luke's Hospital Ð Columbia University Medical Center. DR. ROBERT BARRIS, Lecturer in Pastoral Counseling Dr. Robert Barris received his MD from the University of Toronto. He completed his residency in psychiatry at St. Luke’s Hospital in NYC in 1984. He runs an acute in-patient unit and is Director of Medical Student Education at Nassau University Hospital. Dr. Barris has a private psychiatric practice in Queens. He has been interested in meditation, Jewish mysticism and martial arts over the past 25 years. DR. SARA BARRIS, Lecturer in Pastoral Counseling Dr. Sara Barris is a clinical psychologist in private practice and active in the American Infertility Association, (AIA), a nonprofit, self-help infertility organization that provides moral support and access to medical information for infertile couples. BRUCE BIRNBERG, Lecturer in Pastoral Counseling Bruce Birnberg is a graduate of the City University of New York, receiving a BS in Psychology from Brooklyn College and a MSW from Hunter College School of Social Work. Mr. Birnberg has extensive clinical experience in individual, child, marital and family psychotherapy. He works in medical education as Associate Director for Behavioral Science at JFK Family Practice Residency Program in Edison, New Jersey. Mr. Birnberg is also Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. He has published several articles on the use of multimedia techniques in medical education. RABBI TERRY BOOKMAN, Lecturer in Congregational Leadership Rabbi Terry A. Bookman was ordained rabbi by the Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion in New York in 1984. He holds an MA in Hebrew Letters (Hebrew Union College), an MA in Systematic Theology (Marquette University), and a BA in Humanities (C.U.N.Y.). He received certification in the areas of secondary education, language arts, and communication from the University of Colorado. He has written three books, published numerous articles on a wide range of contemporary issues, as well as educational programs and curriculum, poetry and music. Rabbi Bookman is co-founder of Eitzah/The Center for Congregational Leadership, whose mission is to strengthen the capacities of congregational leaders, lay and professional, to create effective, vibrant synagogues through education, training, coaching, research, and organizational development. RABBI BARRY GELMAN, Rabbi Barry Gelman received his rabbinic ordination from RIETS at Yeshiva University. He is Rabbi of United Orthodox Synagogues of Houston. He has previously served as Rabbi of Congregation Shaar Hashomayim in Montreal, Canada as well as Assistant Rabbi at Congregation Kehilath Jeshurun and the Hebrew Institute of Riverdale, both in New York. RABBI DAVID GOSHEN, Lecturer in Talmud and Midrash Rabbi David Goshen is a graduate of Yeshivat Har Etzion and the Mir Yeshiva in Jerusalem and has studied Philosophy and Religion at Hebrew University. MARTHA GUNZBURGH, Lecturer in Group Leadership Martha Gunzburg is a New York State licensed clinical social worker, certified psychoanalyst, marriage counselor and group therapist. She has a private practice on the upper west side of Manhattan. She loves teaching and is currently on the faculty of the Center for Group Studies and the Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Study Center. Martha has also taught at NYU School of Social Work and Brooklyn College. She is keenly interested in the integration of psychological knowledge and Torah wisdom. At her synagogue, the Hampton Synagogue, she facilitates a monthly Rosh Chodesh Group and informally coaches rabbinic interns in group leadership skills. DR. WILLIAM KAHN, Lecturer in Congregational Leadership Dr. William Kahn earned a PhD in Psychology from Yale University in 1987. He is currently Professor of Organizational Behavior at Boston University's School of Management. Professor Kahn's teaching, research, and consulting focuses on caregiving organizations—those organizations whose members minister to heal, develop, and educate their patients and clients. He has published widely in academic journals on subjects ranging from organizational change and consultation, group dynamics, and leadership. His latest book is entitled “Holding Fast: The Struggle to Create Resilient Caregiving Organizations.” As Co-Director of the Eitzah Center for Congregational Leadership, along with Rabbi Terry Bookman, Dr. Kahn works to develop the leadership skills of rabbis and lay leaders, strengthen the relationship between them, and increase the capacity of the synagogue to operate as a healthy institution. RABBI NAOMI KALISH, Lecturer in Pastoral Counseling Rabbi Naomi Kalish is a Chaplain and Supervisory Candidate at St. Luke's - Roosevelt Hospital Center, where she supervises and trains chaplain interns. She is the Education Coordinator of the Center for Studies in Jewish Pastoral Care of the HealthCare Chaplaincy. RABBI DOV LEREA, Lecturer in Pastoral Counseling Rabbi Dov Lerea is Director of Jewish Education at the Heschel School in NYC. He is the past director of the Prozdor of Hebrew College in Brookline, MA. Rabbi Lerea is also a recipient of the Korczak Award for Holocaust Education. DR. NAOMI MARK, Lecturer in Pastoral Counseling Dr. Naomi Mark is an Orthodox psychotherapist in private practice in Manhattan. She was featured in the movie "Trembling Before God." PHYLLIS MAYER, Lecturer in Pastoral Counseling Phyllis Mayer hols an MSW and serves on the faculty of OHEL and a member of the board of the International Network of Orthodox Mental Health Professionals (NEFESH). POLLY MCCALL, Lecturer in Pastoral Counseling Polly McCall is a social worker, specializing in alcoholism and addiction. RABBI YEHUDAH MIRSKY, Lecturer in Jewish Thought Rabbi Yehuda Mirsky was ordained by Rav Zalman Nechemia Goldberg of Jerusalem. He is a graduate of Yale University Law School and served as special advisor in the U.S. State Department's Human Rights Bureau. Rabbi Mirsky also holds the prestigious Javits Graduate Fellowship of the United States Department of Education. He completed his PhD in Religion at Harvard University and is currently a fellow at the Van Leer Institute and the Jewish People Policy Planning Institute. RACHEL PILL, Lecturer in Pastoral Counseling Rachel Pill is a clinical social worker with a private practice in Cedarhurst, Long Island. She is a graduate of the Wurzweiler School of Social Work and for the past decade has taught and worked with families and individuals in the Jewish community. Ms. Pill is Adjunct Professor at RIETS and Co-founder of the Long Island Guidance and Wellness Center. HADASSAH RAMIN, Internship Supervisor Hadassah Ramin is a licensed clinical social worker with psychoanalytic training. She is a member, instructor, Training and Supervising analyst with the NY Freudian Society; Member and Supervisor with the Institute for Psychoanalytic Training and Research; Faculty and Supervisor with the Metropolitan Institute for Training in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy; Voluntary Faculty with Mt. DEBORAH GRAYSON RIEGEL, Coach and Lecturer in Pastoral Counseling Deborah Grayson Riegel, MSW, ACC, Head Coach of MyJewishCoach.com, is a coach, trainer and speaker who helps Jewish organizations and individuals achieve personal and professional success. Deborah's workshops and one-on-one coaching are in high demand with Jewish organizations, Fortune 500 companies, government agencies, and entrepreneurial start-ups. Deborah holds an MSW from Columbia University and is a certified coach with the International Coach Federation. Deborah previously served as Director of Education and Training for the Mandel Center for Leadership Excellence at UJC, and is a former improvisational comedian. DR. PAUL ROSENFIELD, Lecturer in Pastoral Counseling Dr. Paul Rosenfield is an attending psychiatrist on the Schizophrenia Research Unit of the New York State Psychiatric Institute, an Instructor at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and has a private psychiatric practice. He received an MD from Columbia University and completed a psychiatry residency at the University of California, in San Francisco. DR. TAMAR ROSS, Lecturer in Jewish Thought Dr. Tamar Ross is a professor of Jewish philosophy at Bar Ilan University in Israel. She has also taught at the first women's Yeshiva, Midreshet Lindenbaum, since its inception in 1976. She is currently scholar-in-residence for the year in the dept. of religious studies at Yale, has published many articles in scholarly journals on topics related to medieval Jewish philosophy, Jewish mysticism, the Musar movement, the thought of R.A.I. Kook and theological questions relating to the interface of Jewish tradition and modernity. Her most recently published work is a book entitled "Expanding the Palalce of Torah: Orthodoxy and Feminism." RABBI SIMEON SCHREIBER, Lecturer in Pastoral Counseling Rabbi Simeon Schreiber is a Board-certified Jewish Chaplain and a member of the National Association of Jewish Chaplains. He is currently serving on the staff of Hackensack University Medical Center as an interfaith chaplain specializing in pediatric oncology and emergency room ministry. He is a frequent lecturer on the protocols of both bikur cholim visitation and the shiva call. RABBI DAVID SILBER, Lecturer in Tanakh and Jewish Thought Rabbi David Silber is the Founder and Director of the Drisha Institute of Jewish Education. He is also the co-founder of HaSha'ar, a new program for training Jewish day school teachers. Rabbi Silber is a pre-eminent Bible scholar and sought-after speaker, whose shiurim and CD recordings are distributed worldwide. He received ordination from RIETS and is a recipient of the Covenant Award. CHAIM SAIMAN, Lecturer in Halakha Chaim Saiman is a graduate of Columbia Law School and has studied at Yeshivat Har Etzion and Kerem Bi'Yavne. He is currently clerking for Judge Michael McConnell on the Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. DR. YITZCHAK SCHECHTER, Lecturer in Jewish Thought Dr. Yitzchak Schechter is a researcher at the Nathan Kline Institute and Adjunct Professor at Yeshiva University. He received BA, MA, and PhD degrees from Yeshiva University and specializes in the intersection of psychology and religion. DR. FELICE TAGER, Lecturer in Pastoral Counseling Dr. Felice Tager received her PhD in Health Psychology from Yeshiva University. She is currently an assistant clinical professor of medical psychology (in psychiatry) at Columbia Presbyterian Medical center. Dr. Tager does research in breast cancer survivorship and she is currently the principal investigator of research projects focusing on the cognitive and psychological issues in breast cancer survivors. In addition to research, Dr. Tager is part of a faculty practice where she does primarily cognitive behavioral therapy. She works with medical patients with psychological issues as well as patients struggling with depression and anxiety. Dr. Tager specializes in treating obsessive compulsive disorder and other anxiety disorders, particularly with women in the Orthodox Jewish community. RABBI BARRY WIMPFHEIMER, Lecturer in Talmud Rabbi Barry Wimpfheimer has ordination from RIETS, a BA in Mathematics and History from Columbia College and an MA in Talmud from Bernard Revel Graduate School. A former Instructor of Talmud at the Yeshivat Chovevei Torah University Program, he has also taught Talmud for three years for the Columbia University Beit Midrash. Rabbi Wimpfheimer is a co-founder of the Friday Night Service at Congregation Ramath Orah, where he served as a Rabbinic Assistant. An alumnus of both the Wexner and Meorot Fellowship programs, he is pursuing a doctorate in Religion at Columbia University. DR. RACHEL YEHUDA, Lecturer in Pastoral Counseling Dr. Rachel Yehuda is currently Director of the Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Program at the Bronx Veterans Administration Medical Center in Bronx, NY, a Professor of Psychiatry at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, an active researcher in the field of posttraumatic stress, and is currently Vice President of the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS). Dr. Yehuda has authored more than 150 books, book chapters and journal articles, and has received awards for her research. Her work as Founder and Director of the Specialized Treatment Program for Holocaust Survivors and their Families has been recognized in the Congressional Record. Dr. Yehuda received her PhD in Neurochemistry / Neuroendocrinology and her MS in Biological Psychology Neurochemistry / Neuroendocrinology from the University of Massachusetts, and completed her postdoctoral training in Biological Psychiatry at Yale Medical School. |
