Student and Faculty Quotes

In the years that have passed since Yeshivat Chovevei Torah's first Semikha ceremony, I have learned more about the responsibilities of the rabbinate than 20 years in yeshiva could have taught me. But while at Chovevei, I feel I learned more about how to be a rabbi than 20 years on the job could teach me.

Young Leaders Fellowship
A project of Yeshivat Chovevei Torah Rabbinical School
- ISRAEL

Engaging young men (20's and 30's) to explore the dynamics of professional communal leadership and the Rabbinate.

Together we will ask,

What motivates leaders?

How do authority and influence play out in communal leadership?

Do shared beliefs and values weaken or strengthen community?

What draws people together to form community?

How can community contribute to an individual spiritual quest?

How can we really listen to each other?

Can leaders be happy?

The fellowship is designed as an intimate cohort community.  Acceptance to the YLF is predicated upon being nominated by a Jewish professional or lay leader who can comfortably attest that his/her nominee is open to exploring the rabbinate or Jewish professional leadership.

The Young Leaders Fellowship is a series of 15 encounters during the 2008-2009/ 5769-school year, including:

- Friday round table discussions and brunch at the Anna Ticho house in Jerusalem. In dialogue with thought provoking scholars, we analyze values and ideas in constructing community.

- Friday hands-on social service projects and discussions with their founding visionaries.

- Two shabbatonim probing the inner workings of synagogue communities- in discussion with the rabbis, the lay leadership, and the general membership.

A 500 NIS honorarium is awarded to each fellow.
