L’chvod Rav Avi, Rabbi Lopatin, Rabbi Linzer, Rabbi Love, Rav Katz and the rest of the faculty and staff, Obviously, we are grateful that you have created a holy place of learning for both Chai and Tzachi. But do you realize the profound influence you have had and continue to have in our lives? Thank you for helping us to create an open orthodox home where Torah is observed consciously. Thank you for modeling for us how to live the Torah that we learn. Thank you for helping us to raise our children with the knowledge that they could question anything that did not make sense to them, and that that is a proper and healthy attitude to apply to all aspects of Torah living. It brings us tremendous comfort and gives us strength knowing that Yeshivat Chovevei Torah is here to inspire and guide all of us.

With heartfelt thanks,

Thoughts and Prayers for Eitam and Naama Henkin a"h and Oregon

Dear Friends,

Our simcha on this holiday of Sukkot has been tragically pierced by the murder of Naama and Eitam Henkin a”h yesterday in Israel. In the midst of national mourning in America for the murders of so many innocent lives in Oregon, the International Rabbinic Fellowship, which represents nearly two hundred rabbis and maharats from all over the world, has released the statement below. May God restore the true joy and peace that Sukkot will one day mean for our world.

Asher Lopatin

The International Rabbinic Fellowship is deeply pained and outraged by the horrific murders, by Palestinian terrorists, of Rabbi Eitam and Naama Henkin z"l, as they were driving home in the Shomron area. Rabbi Henkin was a young outstanding scholar who was destined for greatness and had already published widely. Rabbi Henkin was the son of the esteemed Torah scholars and leaders, Rabbi Yehuda Herzl Henkin and Rabbanit Chana Henkin. In their work and teaching they have had a major impact on the Modern-Orthodox community both in Israel and the United States and beyond. Naama was a gifted graphic artist and directed an art studio. She was the daughter of Chanan and Hila Armoni who were active members and leaders of the Religious-Zionist community in Israel as well as serving in key positions in the IDF and Israeli intelligence over the last three decades.

We are outraged by the praise lavished on this odious act by Hamas and the military wing of the Fatah party. Such statements are beneath contempt. We support the efforts of the IDF and the Israeli security forces in tracking down those responsible for this heinous crime. We call on all citizens of Israel to refrain from taking the law into their own hands, even in the midst of the grief, anger and pain that we all feel.
